Josef Skvorecky, Remembered

by evanmcmurry

Ivan Klima once told a story of when he worked in a bookstore in Czech, and an American came in to ask for a book, repeatedly trying and failing to pronounce Skvorecky’s name. “I finally gave him some Kundera and sent him on his way,” Klima said. All that aside, “The Cowards” remains one of the best, and most entertaining, World War II novels you’ll ever read. Obituary here.
