A Flea in the Fur of the Beast

“Without the other side, there is no war.”

by evanmcmurry

Salon tries and fails to get us to take seriously Ben Shapiro, the mastermind at Breitbart Jr. who released a tape purportedly proving Obama’s college radicalism that turned out to be a young Obama hugging his professor, and also fell for “Friends of Hamas,” a fictional extremist group that Shapiro thought was real. The profile mentions his appearances on Fox News, “where he robotically dispenses talking points at a ruthless clip that demands to be taken seriously,” as if this were a good thing. And anyway, this is the only most revealing quote in the whole piece:

While he’s best known for trashing liberals, fairly or not, Shapiro insists he respects them — as long they’re smart — and loves to mix it up with them. “I think that we appreciate the folks that are on the other side, just like anybody who’s in any war. You sort of learn to appreciate the folks on the other side, because without the other side, there is no war,” he explains.

Nailed it.

Yer Mark Sanford Tweet of the Day

In response (presumably) to Chris Hayes’s question of why Mark Sanford gets another whack at politics while Anthony Weiner does not:

Classy. For the record, another way to describe “love affair w/ a beautiful woman” is:

Sanford made national headlines in 2009 when he disappeared for six days and was subsequently found to have been involved in an extramarital affair. A special House impeachment panel formally censured him for bringing “ridicule, dishonor, disgrace and shame” on South Carolina and for using state funds to facilitate his affair.

Nothing says “austerity” like using taxpayer money to throw it in a woman on another continent.
