Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Before the Bombs

by evanmcmurry

The New York Times has a thorough and humanizing portrait of the elder Tsarnaev, one more about disappointment and hopelessness than any radical Islamic organizations. The paragraph about Tamerlan’s breaking out into a classical piano piece while registering for a boxing match suggests an entirely different life that never came to fruition.

Given the economy since 2008, and the state of unemployment and underemployment, you have to wonder how many Tamerlans there are out there, a gnawing sense of loss needing only someone to blame in order to turn violent.
