Governance in the USA

This is really stepping out on a limb, but the decades old experiment by the Republican Party to denigrate “government” since Ronald Reagan declared the nine most terrifying words in the English language (“I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”) has really contributed to decreasing the service quality from the government, particularly in the most “small government” states like Texas where the fertilizer plant that may have been holding (in violation of regulations) 270 tons of highly explosive ammonium nitrate had just $1 million in liability insurance.

That’s one way to tell the story.  Another is to throw your hands in the air and declare that we’ve become Nigeria because of an email I got this morning which read:

“Hi, I am Pauline Allen, 18 years old from Ohio United States of America, I have a business proposal for you.  Please send me an email to:”

I would expect that the result of emailing is being asked for bank information, followed by the draining of any and all money from that bank account.
