Yawning is Better Than Hating, GOP Edition

by evanmcmurry

My favorite line in this article on how Floridian women voted in high numbers for Romney over Gingrich: “Romney’s yawning lead among women…” Perfect way to capture that just because Romney got the female vote doesn’t mean he is in any way interesting to them.

Perry and the Coyote

by evanmcmurry

We now must consider the theological implications of Perry’s dropping out. If God first told him to run, then a) Perry values his remaining pride more than the dictates of his lord; b) God changed his mind, Abraham-style, and is no better than those wuss undecided voters; c) God doesn’t exist, and Perry was cynically exploiting other peoples’ faith; or d) God’s got a wicked sense of humor. In any event, I hope the ghost of the coyote Perry shot visits him in dreams every night for the rest of his life, and that Perry wakes up in the cold sweat of expendability.

Mitt Romney: A Still Life

by evanmcmurry

WaPo on why nobody’s attacking Romney on health care and his socially moderate past:

It appears Romney’s opponents are simply trying to open up new fronts with which to attack him.

The old ones are still there and are still being reinforced in ads, but given that none of them has done much to damage his frontrunner veneer, this is about throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it sticks.

Sure. But the whole Romney narrative is that he was never much of a frontrunner to begin with–hence his cresting at 25% as we cycled through all the alternatives. It’s much more likely that these attacks did work, but that nobody else was able to capitalize on them.

But with Huntsman out of the race…

…we’ll never know what’s Chinese for “Thanks to the voters of Montana, we are tied for fourth place.”

But with Huntsman out of the race…

…we’ll never know whether a wealthy, self-funded white man can win the Republican nomination.

Epitaph Written

Herman Cain is “the American-Tea-Party Berlusconi.” Not a direct analogy, as Berlusconi actually held power, but still. Who’d have thought the smooth talker in the top hat would go out in priapic disgrace?
