Obama: He’s No “Dave”

by evanmcmurry

Maureen Dowd’s second column in as many weeks faulting Obama for not being like a president in the Moviez:

Actually, it is his job to get them to behave. The job of the former community organizer and self-styled uniter is to somehow get this dunderheaded Congress, which is mind-bendingly awful, to do the stuff he wants them to do. It’s called leadership.

[snip] How can the president star in a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner satirical film pretending to be Daniel Day-Lewis playing Barack Obama in Steven Spielberg’s movie “Obama,” and not have absorbed the lessons of “Lincoln”?

This, kids, is why you pay for the New York Times: “The White House should have created a war room full of charts with the names of pols they had to capture, like they had in ‘The American President.'”

Newt Gingrich: A Still Life

by evanmcmurry

I don’t like Maureen Dowd any more than the next literate human, but every once in a while she nails it. I’ve never heard Gingrich’s combination of legitimate historical/political knowledge and say-anything-with-extreme-force style put better than “He plays air guitar with ideas.” Read the whole thing here, and I promise never to link to Maureen Dowd again.
